Our Churchyard

St Paul's from Reading Road‘Churchyards exist like small islands of time past in the midst of the modern world. Here can be found time for reflection in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, not only a resting place for the last mortal remains but a place of ease for those who go on living’. This quote was taken from an introduction statement from the ‘Living Churchyard Project’.

In Britain nearly all our lowland hay meadows, which once played host to wild flowers and butterflies have gone. The precious remnants need to be treasured and conserved.

Many churchyards are far from neglected and some are expensively over managed.

We are fortunate at St Paul’s not to suffer from this and our efforts to date are sympathetic for wildlife.

So in this corner of Berkshire a managment plan is in place which is sympathetic to wildlife.

There is an admirable booklet by Jim Bell entitled "A Stroll through St. Paul's Parish Churchyard, Wokingham". This may be obtained from the Parish Office or Wokingham Information Centre.
